The best time to visit Beverly Hills is March to early June or late September to November. Afternoons run 70 to 79 °F (21 to 26 °C), rain almost never interrupts a day, and the sidewalks are calmer than in midsummer. Skip February if you want dry weather, since it is the wettest month with 3.6 inches (92 mm), and think twice about July and August, when afternoons reach 84 °F (28.9 °C) and every hotel pool is full. The ocean off Santa Monica stays cold, 70 °F (21 °C) at its August peak. For hotels and neighborhoods, start with our Beverly Hills hotel guide.
Beverly Hills at a glance

- Coolest: December, average high 67 °F (19.7 °C) and low 48 °F (9.0 °C). Frost is not part of the picture.
- Wettest: February, 3.6 in (92 mm) across about 4.7 rain days. The whole year brings only 14.3 in (363 mm).
- Driest: July, August and September, which together average less than 0.2 in (4 mm).
- Sea temperature: 58 °F (14.7 °C) in March, 70 °F (21 °C) in August, in Santa Monica Bay, a 15 minute drive away.

Understanding the Beverly Hills climate
Beverly Hills has a dry summer Mediterranean climate: a warm, rainless half year from May to October, and a mild, changeable wet half from November to April. The city has no century long weather station of its own, so the honest way to read it is between two NOAA stations that do have one. Los Angeles International Airport, on the coast eight miles southwest, and Downtown Los Angeles at USC, seven miles east. Beverly Hills sits between them, closer to the downtown pattern in its flats and closer to the coastal pattern on days when the sea breeze pushes inland.
The gap between those two stations is the single most useful climate fact for a visitor. In August, the coast averages 77 °F (24.8 °C) while downtown averages 84 °F (28.9 °C), a 7 °F spread over 15 miles (NOAA NCEI, 1991 to 2020 normals). In January the two are nearly identical, 66 °F and 68 °F. Translation: in summer, an afternoon in Santa Monica feels like a different season from an afternoon on Wilshire Boulevard, and the drive between them takes 20 minutes.

Rain arrives in a narrow window
Downtown Los Angeles averages 14.3 inches (363 mm) of rain a year, and 87 percent of it falls between November and March. The year counts about 21 days with measurable rain, meaning 0.1 inch or more. That is a fifth of what Boston or Seattle record. When it does rain here it tends to arrive as a full day of steady rain from a Pacific storm, not as a passing shower, and canyon roads above Sunset Boulevard can close briefly after a burn scar season.
The marine layer, known locally as June Gloom
From spring into late summer, a shallow deck of cloud forms over the cold coastal water at night and slides inland. The National Weather Service puts the likeliest window at April to August and explains that the cloud burns off as the sun warms the air beneath it. In practice, mornings in Beverly Hills can be flat gray until 11 a.m. in May and June while the afternoon turns bright. Locals call it May Gray and June Gloom. It cools the city rather than spoiling it, and it never registers as rain in the table below.
Santa Ana winds and the fire season
From September into January, dry offshore winds pour out of the Great Basin, compress as they descend, and arrive hot and very dry. NOAA notes that the region's fire season peaks in early fall, when the vegetation has been baked dry all summer and the rains have not yet started. For a visitor this usually means spectacular visibility, a sudden jump of several degrees, and occasional smoke in the air. The January 2025 fires in Pacific Palisades and Altadena were driven by exactly this pattern.
Spring in Beverly Hills: March to May
Spring is the most comfortable stretch of the year for walking the city. Highs climb from 70 °F (21.1 °C) in March to 74 °F (23.2 °C) in May, nights sit near 52 to 58 °F (11 to 14 °C), and rain drops off fast: 2.2 in (57 mm) in March, 0.7 in (18 mm) in April, 0.3 in (8 mm) in May. The hills above Coldwater Canyon stay green into April, which happens for only about eight weeks a year.

What to plan for in spring:
- Mornings can be gray from late April onward. Book outdoor lunches rather than outdoor breakfasts.
- Pack a jacket for evenings. The 20 degree drop between afternoon and night is constant here.
- Oscar weekend, March 14 in 2027, tightens hotel availability across the West Side even though the ceremony is held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
- The spring Beverly Hills artSHOW fills four garden blocks of Beverly Gardens Park with 250 artists over a mid May weekend.
Spring is also when the gardens are at their best. Greystone Mansion, the 1928 Doheny estate on Loma Vista Drive, opens its terraces and formal gardens to the public daily, free, and the city runs evening programs there through the warm months.
Summer in Beverly Hills: June to August
Summer is hot, bone dry and busy. Downtown highs go 77 °F (25.1 °C) in June, 82 °F (27.8 °C) in July and 84 °F (28.9 °C) in August, and the three months together average under 0.2 inches (4 mm) of rain. Nights stay mild, around 61 to 65 °F (16 to 18 °C), which is why terrace dining works from June through October.

The marine layer is the summer variable. June mornings are the grayest of the year on the coast, and the joke that Santa Monica has no June is not far off. Two miles inland the cloud usually lifts earlier. If your plan is a pool day, book a hotel in the flats rather than a beach hotel, and plan the ocean for late afternoon.

Precautions for a summer stay:
- Heat events are short but real. When a Santa Ana pattern sets up in late summer, downtown can run 10 to 15 °F above normal for two or three days.
- The ocean never gets properly warm. 70 °F (21 °C) in August is the annual high in Santa Monica Bay, so most swimming happens in hotel pools.
- July and August are the busiest hotel months of the year in Los Angeles. Our guide to peak season in Beverly Hills covers what that means for room choice.
- Free Concerts on Cañon run on Thursday evenings through the summer at Beverly Cañon Gardens, on North Cañon Drive.
Fall in Beverly Hills: September to November
September is the sleeper month. Afternoons still reach 83 °F (28.3 °C), the sea is at its second warmest, 69 °F (20.7 °C), and American family travel stops the week schools go back. October cools to 79 °F (25.9 °C) with 0.6 in (15 mm) of rain, and November to 73 °F (22.7 °C) with 0.8 in (20 mm). The air after a Santa Ana event is the clearest of the year, which is the reason to drive up to Mulholland Drive at sunset in October rather than in June.

Fall is also the practical season for a stay: our article on September as a shoulder season explains why the calendar empties before the holiday weeks fill it again. The fall artSHOW returns to Beverly Gardens Park in mid October, on October 17 and 18 in 2026, and the Rodeo Drive Holiday Lighting Celebration closes the season on November 19, 2026.
The one caution is fire weather. Between late September and December, check the National Weather Service Los Angeles office for red flag warnings before planning a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains, and expect hazy air for a day or two if a fire is burning anywhere upwind.
Winter in Beverly Hills: December to February
Winter here is what most of the country would call a mild spring. Highs run 67 to 68 °F (19.7 to 20.0 °C), nights 48 to 50 °F (9 to 10 °C), and the sun still shows up between systems. The catch is that this is when the rain comes: 2.5 in (63 mm) in December, 3.3 in (84 mm) in January, 3.6 in (92 mm) in February, spread over four to five wet days a month.
Winter is also award season, which is a Beverly Hills story rather than a Hollywood one. The Golden Globes are held at The Beverly Hilton on Wilshire Boulevard, next on January 10, 2027, and the Oscars follow on March 14, 2027. Around those two dates, rooms, restaurant tables and car services on the West Side go first and go expensive.
Two other winter notes. Super Bowl LXI will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on February 14, 2027, 12 miles from Rodeo Drive, which will make the usually quiet mid February weekend the busiest of the winter. And the Rodeo Drive holiday lights stay up into early January, so the first week of the year still looks like the season without the December rates.

Where to stay
Season changes what matters in a room here. In summer, a pool and a west facing terrace earn their keep; in winter, a location inside the Golden Triangle saves you from driving in the rain.

FAQ
What is the best time to visit Beverly Hills?
March to early June and late September to November. Afternoons average 70 to 83 °F (21 to 28 °C), rain is rare outside March, and hotels are not at their summer peak. April and October are the two single best months: dry, clear and warm without the July heat or the June morning cloud that hangs over the coast.
What is the cheapest month to visit Beverly Hills?
Mid January to early March is the quietest and least expensive stretch, because it is the wet season and there is no school holiday pulling American families west. Two exceptions in 2027: the Golden Globes weekend on January 10 and Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium on February 14, which will fill West Side hotels.
What is the coldest month in Beverly Hills?
December, with an average high of 67 °F (19.7 °C) and an average low of 48 °F (9.0 °C) at the Downtown Los Angeles station, according to NOAA 1991-2020 normals. January is within a degree. Neither month sees frost in the city, though the Santa Monica Mountains above town can drop close to freezing before dawn.
How hot does it get in Beverly Hills?
August is the hottest month, averaging 84 °F (28.9 °C) in the afternoon and 65 °F (18.6 °C) overnight. Individual days go much higher during a Santa Ana wind event, when offshore flow compresses and dries the air, and temperatures near the hills can jump 10 to 15 °F above normal for two or three days.
What is the rainiest month in Beverly Hills?
February, with 3.6 inches (92 mm) over about 4.7 rain days. January follows with 3.3 inches (84 mm). The whole year only averages 14.3 inches (363 mm), and 87 percent of it falls between November and March, so a summer visit almost never loses a day to weather.
When is June Gloom in Beverly Hills?
Late April through August, with June the worst of it. A marine layer forms over the cold ocean at night and slides inland, leaving gray mornings that usually clear by late morning. The National Weather Service puts the likeliest marine layer window at April to August. It is thickest at the coast and thinner in the Beverly Hills flats.
Is the ocean warm enough to swim near Beverly Hills?
Only in late summer. Santa Monica Bay averages 70 °F (21 °C) in August and 69 °F (20.7 °C) in September, its two warmest months, then falls to 58 °F (14.7 °C) by March. Most visitors swim in hotel pools instead and treat the beach at Santa Monica, a 15 minute drive west, as a walk rather than a swim.
What is the best way to visit Beverly Hills as a tourist?
On foot inside the Golden Triangle, the wedge between Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard and Canon Drive, then by car for Greystone Mansion, Mulholland Drive and the beach. Park once and walk: Rodeo Drive, Beverly Gardens Park and the Civic Center all sit within a 15 minute walk of one another.
